Pre-Kindergarten

  • The pre-kindergarten program at Woodlawn Catholic Regional School is an all day program for four-year-old children.  Consistent with the mission and philosophy of this school, the purpose of our pre-kindergarten program is to provide opportunities for the emotional, physical, intellectual, spiritual and social growth of children prior to their kindergarten experience.

    The framework for this curriculum is the Rhode Island Early Learning Standards. The theoretical base for this program is of an eclectic nature, drawing from various theorists such as Piaget, Erikson, and others who have had significant influence in the field of early childhood education.  Practices and strategies used in interactions with students vary according to the individual needs and developmental abilities of the student as well as the context of the situation.

    Activities are designed to engage each learner in play activities, which emphasize appropriate social behavior, foster spontaneous sharing, and provide opportunities for cooperative learning.   These include cooperative problem solving, investigative play, and projects that integrate content areas to provide cognitive challenges at varied, but developmentally appropriate levels.

  • Our classroom will be nut- free for the school year.  Please eliminate all peanut products from your child’s lunch and snack for this school year. 
     
    Do not send your child to school with peanut butter sandwiches, peanut butter crackers, candy etc.

  • Preschool Program Schedule

    8:00  Arrival  
    8:00 – 8:10  - Put away students' belongings and take attendance
    8:15 – 8:45 Morning Meeting  - Calendar, weather, flag, prayer, Introduce       concept/project for the day
    8:45 – 9:00 - Snack
    9:00 – 10:30 Center Time -   Student’s work in centers. The teacher works with small   groups and individual students on our daily project/concept. (Writing, cutting,   painting, gluing, etc.)
    10:30-10:45 - Clean- Up
    10:45 – 11:00   - Prepare for recess (coats, etc.)
    11:00 – 11:40- Recess
    11:45 – 12:00   - Story and a review of our morning
    12:00 – 12:20 - Lunch
    12:20 – 1:45 - Rest Time
    1:55 – 2:05 Prepare for dismissal - Clean up classroom and put on coats
    2:05 – 2:20 -Songs and Finger plays
    2:20 – Dismissal
