Kindergarten

  • Welcome to our Kindergarten class

Our day is filled with many hands on, small group, and whole group activities. Each day begins with prayer, then morning meeting which includes the calendar, pledge, and schedule for the day.

ELA- the Kindergarten class uses the SUPERKIDS reading series which is a phonics-based program. It introduces characters that represent the individual letters of the alphabet, teaching the students to blend sounds to make words. There is a writing component which allows students to become strong writers and readers.

Math- the Kindergarten class uses the Eureka math series which is a Common Core Aligned program which includes using manipulatives and students’ own drawings to teach concepts.

Religion- the year begins with God and the story of creation. Students learn about Jesus, and the teachings of the church. Respect for each other is woven throughout our day.

School lunch and milk are available. Students are not allowed to bring in soda or candy for snack. WCRS is a peanut free school.

Kindergarten has MUSIC, ART, COMPUTERS, GYM, LIBRARY, WRITER’S WORKSHOP, and READING BUDDIES.

Special themes throughout the year include fall, apples, pumpkins, Halloween, pilgrims, winter, polar bears, penguins, Valentine’s Day, spring, and seeds.

CENTERS are various areas (computers, kitchen, art, puzzles, games, paint, books on tape, blocks) throughout the classroom that children visit in small groups to encourage imagination and cooperation.
